Course Registration Information

Read the following information thoroughly before completing your registration. 

IMPORTANT: If you register and pay for courses and fail to attend, the course fee is NOT REFUNDABLE. However, you may reschedule for another time. If you choose not to reschedule within two weeks of a missed class, your course fee is considered a donation to the Ohio River Valley Chapter.

COURSE PRICING  Course fees help the Ohio River Valley Red Cross to generate financial support for vital Red Cross services. Specifically, fees assist us helping fire, flood, and other victims of natural or environmental disasters in Scioto and Pike Counties.
 
ATTENDANCE:  It is mandatory that you arrive on time. Instructors may not allow you to take the class if you arrive late. Those arriving more than 15 minutes late will not be permitted under any circumstances to attend the class. If this happens you will not receive a refund; your payment is forfeit and to reschedule you must reregister. Due to the importance of materials being taught, attendance, participation and successful completion is mandatory at all course sessions to receive certification.

ATTIRE: Comfortable, loose-fitting clothes (such as slacks) is recommended.                                                                                      
COURSE CANCELLATIONS: If our office, due to low enrollment, weather, or other unforeseen circumstances must cancel a course, you will be notified and rescheduled at no additional cost.
 
SAFETY CONCERNS: Most health & safety courses include practice sessions requiring moderately strenuous activity. If you have a medical condition or disability that might prevent you from taking part in all aspects of the course, please notify our Health & Safety Services office prior to registration. Expectant mothers should consult with their doctor for their permission to participate in training.

Please be aware that the American Red Cross will not be liable for minors who leave the premises before, during or after any course sessions that they are registered to attend.

SAFETY PRODUCTS:  A variety of Red Cross disaster preparedness kits, preparedness supplies, first aid kits, safety items, are sold at the Red Cross offices during regular business hours. These mission-related items are sold TAX FREE.
 
SPECIAL NEEDS: Anyone meeting the prerequisites of any Red Cross course is eligible to participate in that course. Students with special needs should communicate these needs when registering to allow Red Cross personnel time to make reasonable accommodations. Our goal is to ensure the best opportunity for success for all students.
 

COURSE DESCRIPTIONS
 

CPR/AED - Adult: This course is designed to assist an individual to recognize and handle emergency situations, care for breathing and cardiac emergencies, perform CPR on adults and use an AED (Automated External Defibrilltor) on victims of sudden cardiac arrest until advanced medical help becomes availbale. CPR certification is valid for one (1) year.

CPR - Child & Infant: This course module assist a person  in helping to prevent, recognize and provide basic care for breathing and cardiac emergencies in infants and children under the age of 12 until advanced medical help can take over. The module at the Ohio River Valley Red Cross includes child AED. Certification is valid for (1) one year. 

First Aid: This module provides instruction regarding basic care for injuries or sudden illness until advanced medical care can take over. Instruction includes handling emergency situations; basic disease transmission precautions; recognizing and caring for bleeding, wounds, sudden illness; and immobilizing muscle, bone and joint injuries. This course meets OSHA Guidleines for First Aid. Certification is valid for (3) three years.

Sports Safety Training (Sports Injury Prevention): This course deals with sports-related injury prevention such as soft tissue and skeletal injuries.  First aid is included.  CPR may be added as an additional module in order to deal with breathing and cardiac emergencies. Sports Injury Prevention with first aid is valid for (3) years.

CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer & Health Care Provider: A course designed for any individual who has a duty to respond to emergencies.  It is ideal for students pursuing a healthcare career. The course teaches a person to recognize and care for breathing and cardiac emergencies, provide two-rescuer CPR, use of resuscitation mask and bag-valve-mask. Also, knowledge and skills needed to care for victims of sudden cardiac arrest through CPR and the use of AED are offered.  Certification is valid for (2) two years.

Bloodborne Pathogens Training: Preventing Disease Transmission: This course deals with the transmission of disease, emergency and follow-up proceuders, and preventing disease transmission.

Babysitter's Training with Child and Infant CPR: This course is designed for people between the ages of 11 and 15 years of age.  It is a multimedia course designed to teach basic childcare skills for infants through school-aged children. Basic first aid, safety issues, and injury prevention are included. The course textbook includes a useful and fun CR-ROM.  There is no expiration date for babysitting certification; however, the child and infant CPR has a validity of (1) year.  Please be aware that the American Red Cross will not be liable for minors who leave the premises before, during or after any course sessions that they are registered to attend.
